Worried about childhood obesity? Need to get your kids off the sofa
and away from the TV or video games? Or perhaps you just want them to
learn new skills? World-wide research shows the benefits of music on
youth, social and community development, benefits you and your family
can experience thanks to the Willoughby Band organisation.
The Willoughby Band organisation consists of one of Australia’s
premier A-Grade brass bands, with a reputation for high quality
performance and the promotion of young talent, an award winning youth
brass band and a newly formed youth concert band.
Conducted by Steve Hillinger, Director of Ensembles at North Sydney
Girls High School and Conductor of the Sydney Youth Orchestra, the Willoughby Youth Concert Band is looking for enthusiastic woodwind, brass and percussion players aged between 13 and 25 to join the ranks.
“I was really pleased with the turn out for our first rehearsal on 9
May. There were 17 players as the first baton dropped, which is a great
start, but to get things really swinging we’d love to see a few more
clarinet, flute and percussion players and we really need a baritone
sax player to fill out the bottom end of the band” said Steve.
Interested players should be AMEB grade 4 standard and available for
rehearsals at the Joe Ciantar Rehearsal Room, Mcintosh Street,
Chatswood on Wednesday evenings between 6.30pm and 8.30pm.
