Carols in Willoughby Park
Written by Luke Sandford
Thursday, 17 December 2009

Last Saturday night Willoughby Band played Christmas Carols for the local residents around Willoughby Park.

The Band was accompanied by the Willoughby Choir and guest soloists.

This was very much a community event with the local Rotary Club cooking up great sausage sandwiches and StreetWork selling programs and candles.

The Band members were dressed up in Santa hats and tinsel. It was great to work with the Willoughby Choir again and look forward to our Concert with them in November 2010.

50th Anniversary Photo Gallery

The 50th Anniversary Concert has been our best attended concert for the year. This was the first Concert with Warwick Tyrrell and the Band was little out of their comfort zones with the streamers and party poppers but come the second half of the concert we were well into the sprit of things. Well done Warwick.A highlight of the Concert was the guest trumpet soloist Geoffrey Payne who played magnificently. A big thank you to Andrew Snell who conducted a number of pieces during the afternoon.

The photo gallery of the evening is now online (click here)

Fantastic State Solo Results
Written by Willoughby Band Webmaster
Thursday, 02 July 2009

Members of Willoughby Band made a huge splash at the State Solo and Party Competition over the weekend of 27th-28th June2009.

The band is particularly proud to announce that Brian McGuinness, Principal Cornet of our Senior Band and Musical Director of the Youth Band, delivered a spectacular performance of the Arutunian Concerto to take out the last ever T. E. Gawn Memorial Trophy.

A special mention also to Mark Coleman who took out the Open Tenor Horn event, beating the reigning National Champion of Champions, Bruce Myers.
